The Arts District is located in the eastern part of Downtown Los Angeles. It covers about 50 square blocks centered on Main Street, an offshoot of the route passing through Sunset Boulevard to Pershing Square. As another one of Los Angeles’s prominent art districts, it has many galleries and artist studios open to the public and is within walking distance from L.A.’s historic core and most popular attractions, such as Olvera Street and Union Station. It also hosts many live theatres, music, and dance performances: The Music Center on Grand Avenue, which includes the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, Colburn School of Music, and The Disney Theatre (theatre) and special performances at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Ahmanson Theatre. Also close by is the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA). Main Street, a four-lane thoroughfare that cuts west to east through the center of the Arts District from Cesar Chavez Avenue to Venice Boulevard, has been marked as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978.

It is home to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s headquarters and Parker Center, the former police headquarters. Arts District Los Angeles is an important transportation hub. Its two Metro subway stations, the 1st Street / Central Station and the second street station at 2nd Street are famous for being some of the few stops to have an entire floor dedicated to single-use, in this case, rail travel. Arts District Los Angeles is also an art scene in Los Angeles. Spanish priest Juan Crespi founded what is now Los Angeles in 1781.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is located in the neighborhood and many other government buildings and offices. Many civil servants reside there, making it a very stable and quiet neighborhood despite its location close to Skid Row. The Arts District has been rapidly gentrifying with trendy new restaurants, modern lofts, and luxury high-rise condos. Central City is the central business district of Los Angeles County, California. It is centered on the county government complex (pictured right), containing many government offices, courthouses, and jails. Central City spans 42 blocks in Downtown Los Angeles. The city’s tallest building, the Wilshire Grand Center, is located in the district. Today, the Arts District is a thriving area with many residents, restaurants, businesses, and nightlife.
