Melrose is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It’s not really clear who founded it. Still, Melrose was mentioned in John C. Fremont’s memoirs (where he described his 1847 camp on what would later be part of the southern end of Melrose) and then became a stop along the Butterfield Overland Stage route (which later became Broadway).

Melrose’s borders are pretty ambiguous. Melrose runs from Fairfax to Highland Avenue on the south and spans northward to roughly Hancock Park; however, some consider it to run as far east as Western or Venice Boulevard. It’s a vibrant neighborhood with many vintage clothing shops, thrift stores, and other interesting stores to browse through.

Melrose is also known for its large population of artists and musicians. Melrose’s history in the arts has spawned many clothing lines, such as Junk Food Clothing, Wildfang, and Pistol Lake (to name just a few). There used to be an area where street vendors set up shop almost nightly, but a crackdown has made it difficult for them to sell their wares other than on Sundays.

Melrose is a beautiful neighborhood that’s popular amongst the younger crowd and those who like vintage clothing shops. Melrose also has many hidden gems worth visiting, such as The Falcon (a great dive bar), Bourgeois Pig (a quaint cafe), and a lovely park tucked between Normandie and Melrose Avenues. The people in Melrose are very friendly and are always up for a chat. If you’re looking for some vintage clothing shops, thrift stores, or just a good time in general, be sure to pay Melrose Avenue a visit!

The Falcon, located at 6227 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038, is a great dive bar. The inside is covered with movie posters, and the jukebox has many great songs to jam out to. On most nights, there’s a pretty big crowd, and seating can be hard to find; however, if you’re lucky enough to grab one of the booths they have, it’ll be well worth your while!

Rodeo Drive is an upscale shopping street that features some of the most famous designer brands on the planet! You definitely don’t want to stop by here unless you’re looking to drop some serious cash.

Melrose is a great place for visitors who are interested in vintage clothing stores, thrift shops, and the art scene.
